Governor Tim Phillips, the Officers and members of Janesville WI Lodge 197 have once again proven that having fun while raising funds is the only way to go……bringing the Gimme 5 story to members during a fun-filled event helps us all to remember who we are, how fortunate we are and that our mission is to help others less fortunate.

Heartfelt thanks to one and all.

From Governor Tim Phillips--

I am pleased to report the results of our wonderful fundraising event for Moose Charities. First of all, all that showed up for this event had a wonderful time! It was a success in our eyes, as we are sending in a check in the amount of $504.75 for this event. The Board of Officers voted to earmark this for the Gimme 5 program, since most of our members have lost employment in Janesville due to GM closing and they can not afford to give their amounts like they would like to.

Also thank you, thank you, from all the Board of Officers of Janesville Moose Lodge 197-- to all our volunteers who help make this event happen!

Will we host another one next year? You betcha! Will we change some things?  Slightly, as this was our first ever event and it was a learning curve for us all.

We send a special thank you to the 10 members of Elgin IL Moose Family Center 799, who drove all the way to Janesville, WI, stayed at a hotel and took a taxi to our Moose Family Center to enjoy the festivities. Those ten members of that Lodge know how to have fun. We appreciate all their kind words on our Lodge and our members. We hope to see you next year!

Be a Piece of the Solution!

Fraternally,

Governor Tim Phillips, Janesville Lodge 197

We are always looking for ideas and suggestions for new ways to communicate our programs to our members.

Roy Damron of Cayce Lodge S.C. 462 has introduced an enjoyable and tasteful way to raise funds for Gimme 5.

Roy is the District Chairman for Gimme 5 and wanted to get the knowledge of the program to the Lodge level. He is working with Jim Miller from Darlington Lodge on ideas for raising the necessary funds. One idea they came up with was to cook a dinner with a portion of the cost of dinner to be credited to the members’ donation record for Gimme 5.  Naturally, the key is lots of advertisement.

The Cayce Lodge 462 held a dinner and charged $8.00.  They applied $3.00 to the cost of dinner and $5.00 went to Gimme 5.  All who bought a dinner got the $5.00 turned in to Moose Charities in their name to get them started on their obligation of $36.50 for the year and, ultimately, $182.50 for the five years.

Roy gave a 5-7 minute presentation on Gimme 5 - what it is and the importance of participation.  He then helped everyone fill out their forms to send in.  He explained that the individuals could send more money to Moose Charities at any time to fulfill their obligation. He also suggested they could start saving their money each day to add to their next dinner’s contribution.

Cayce Lodge secured 40 new obligations (Gimme 5 donors) at the first dinner. They plan to hold the dinners each quarter until all have fulfilled their Gimme 5 obligations.

Our kudo’s and sincerest thanks go to Roy and Jim.
